The World Kickboxing Association (WKA) is one of the oldest and the largest amateur and professional sanctioning organizations of kickboxing in the world for the sport. Its official name is "World Kickboxing and Karate Association[1]".WKA was created in the United States as the World Karate Association in 1976 by Howard Hanson, a Shorin-Ryu Karate black belt, and Arnold Urquidez. The organisation was the first non-profit governing body to use an independently controlled rating list, the first to establish a world championship division for women and the first to include countries from Asia.[2] The organisation became one of the major sanctioning bodies for professional karate. Early stars of the WKA included Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, Don "The Dragon" Wilson, Kevin Rosier and Graciela Casillas. The organization went on to secure network broadcasts in the US and Japan.[2] Howard Hanson sold the WKA to Dale Ford in 1991.WKA developed the field of low kicks thanks to strong Asian and Japanese connections. WKA is based in Karlsruhe, Germany with headquarters, and also in England with office in Birmingham, prospered throughout Europe and in North America. In 1994, Paul Inghram took over the organization.

Rohullah Nikpai's journey from an Iranian refugee camp to Afghanistan's sole Olympic medallist has made him a national hero.At a sports centre in the heart of Kabul, the sound of fighting rings out night and day. But this isn't the war that has torn Afghanistan for the past three decades.Kabul's new warriors are taekwondo fighters. In this ancient martial art of kicking and punching, one of the newest stars is 23-year-old Rohullah Nikpai - the first athlete in Afghan history to win an Olympic medal. "Each time I kick, I make sure I do it as well as I can," the young Nikpai explains. "I'm happiest when my training goes well and I achieve something good for my country." The centre, a concrete block of a room, echoes with the sharp slap of bare feet hitting plastic pads. Some two dozen young men in track suits practise kicking drills, punctuated by determined cries of battle. In Afghanistan, it is a poignant reminder of what even a bit of peace can bring - an all too rare place where young men can focus their energies and where they can even dream. When Nikpai won a bronze medal in the Beijing Olympics in 2008, it was a golden moment for him, and for Afghanistan. "When our plane touched down in Kabul it was an amazing moment to see so many of my countrymen and women at the airport," he recalls with a wondrous look, still savouring the moment when he became a national hero. Afghans poured into Kabul's Ghazi stadium to celebrate where, not much more than a decade ago, the Taliban notoriously stoned women to death. "It was unbelievable," marvelled Mirwais Bahawi, a member of Afghanistan's Taekwondo Federation who was providing live commentary from Beijing for Afghan television. "Afghans were watching it on TV in more than 17 provinces. Everyone was praying for Rohullah Nikpai and then, happiness blossomed!" At Nikpai's family home in Kabul, a traditional mud brick bungalow inside a walled compound, a cabinet bursts with bright ribbons and shiny medals, including Afghanistan's highest national honours conferred on him by the President, Hamid Karzai.Afghan taekwondo fighter Rohullah Nikpai and his Olympic bronze medal "I like all my medals but now I hope to win gold in London 2012," he declares, adding a customary "insh'allah" - "God willing". He holds his treasured red ribboned Beijing bronze in his hands.
But for all the new brightness in his life Nikpai, like most Afghans, still lives with the dark legacy of war that has scattered his family far and wide.
His twin sisters and some cousins visiting from Canada join us as we sit cross legged on a carpeted floor to enjoy fragrant rice sprinkled with berries and saffron. Nikpai ended his refugee life in Iran several years ago but much of his extended family still lives outside Afghanistan.
Even his fiancé is living in Canada. He beams with happiness when he recounts how she called him in Beijing after his victory.
Two years on from that day, the shy, slim Nikpai is still greeted with admiring looks and warm embraces wherever he goes.
"I like to see friends and fans but its hard to keep stopping when I am working and on deadline," he confesses.
"I think Nikpai is a very good athlete and also a good neighbour. He is friendly with everyone," remarks one Afghan who stands with a gaggle of young men who stop to watch their local hero walk down a narrow lane from his home.
At a gleaming Kabul barber shop adorned with posters of footballer David Beckham's array of haircuts, Nikpai gets his barber to fashion his own look: a bit of height on top; close cropped on the sides; sealed with an expert swish of hair gel. The barber tells us it's the new "Chinese style."
"No," Nikpai quickly corrects him with a mischievous grin, "its Nikpai style," his style even before he became a champion.
After the years spent in Iran, Nikpai's style is now firmly rooted in Afghanistan. And he is keen to stay despite suggestions that he could benefit from better facilities and coaching elsewhere.
"I don't think we need to go abroad for training," he says. "Our athletes are good and we are getting ready for the next competitions."
Their training centre benefitted from support from Korea, where taekwondo originates, with a gift of equipment including chest guards and other protective wear.
"No one is helping us now," regrets Mirwais Bahawi from the Afghanistan Taekwondo Federation. But he says they will approach countries like Korea, and Japan, as well as Britain for some assistance in the run up to the London 2012 Games.
As we watch Nikpai and his fellow athletes I remark to Mirwais Bahawi that it must be difficult to be an Olympic athlete in a country still at war. He answers with a trademark Afghan nonchalance.
"It's hard," he admits. "But it's easy for Afghans."

Dzhabar "Genghis Khan" Askerov (Russian: Джабар Аскеров; born January 24, 1986) is a professional Dagestani born Russian Middleweight kickboxer and martial artist fighting out of Koh Samui, Thailand and representing United Arab Emirates.[1] He is the WMC Muay Thai Welterweight European champion and K-1 MAX Scandinavia 2008 tournament finalist.
Biography & career
Dzhabar Askerov was born in Kurah, Dagestan in an ethnic Lezgin family. When he was 6, he went to school in Magaramkent. His father took him to the judo gym where he trained for 2 years.
When Dzhabar was 12, his family moved to Derbent. It was his father again who took him to the muay thai gym where he fell in love with the sport. Dzhabar had his first professional fight when he was 18. It was a 4 man tournament which he won. Few years later, he moved to Thailand to train with the best at the birthplace of his beloved sport. He settled at Rompo Gym in Bangkok alongside other well known Dagestani thaiboxers such as Magomed Magomedov and Ramazan Ramazanov.[1]
Dzhabar made his K-1 debut on March 17, 2007 at the K-1 MAX East European tournament against Buakaw Por. Pramuk and lost the fight by unanimous decision.
The Contender Asia
In 2008 Dzhabar took part in The Contender Asia reality show. He was part of the Tiger Kings team and reached the semi finals where he was defeated by John Wayne Parr.

Jackie Chan may have earned some down time doing family friendly fare, but
who will take over where he left off? Golden Harvest Jackie Chan has made over 100 films and broken pretty much
every bone in his body. "Every independent producer, studio executive and wannabe movie mogul in Hong
Kong was scouring the sidewalks for martial artists who looked, talked, acted
or fought like the Dragon - hunting for the next Bruce Lee. ... When we
gathered in the evenings to drink and talk, the conversation always ended up
turning the same way: What did Lee have that we didn't?"
In the trailer for Jackie Chan's new film, The Spy Next Door, which arrives
in theatres tomorrow, a voiceover gravely informs us: "Secret Agent Bob Ho
has taken down dictators, terrorists and evil empires, but he is about to
face his toughest assignment yet: babysitting."
As I watch Chan in the preview burning his hands on a muffin rack, I think of
his classic movie, Police Story. During the 1985 film's final fight scene in
a mall, he slid down a 70-foot pole wrapped in Christmas lights, bulbs
exploding around him, and he burned the skin off of his hands.
The man is 55. He has appeared in more than 100 movies, broken just about
every bone there is and suffered brain injuries. He has earned some time
doing family comedies.
But still, the stunt makes me yearn for the old Chan, and logically, the next
Chan. Who will follow the acrobatic and comedic Chan and the skilful and now
-retired Jet Li? Who will continue the legacy of the legendary Bruce Lee?
Chinese martial arts superstars came in two generations: Chan and actor Sammo
Hung practised back flips, splits and hand stands at the same opera school in
Hong Kong in the '60s; then performers such as Li and actor Donnie Yen
studied wushu in mainland China in the '70s. They were catapulted to fame in
Hong Kong, which had one of the largest movie industries in the world.
But the industry has since deflated; kung fu films fell out of fashion and
stunt job opportunities (where Lee and Chan got their start) declined.
"The martial arts film is similar to the Western: its heyday is long over,
but there will be small cycles of films from time to time when someone finds
a fresh spin," says Leon Hunt, who teaches film studies at Brunel University
in the U.K. "There hasn't been any fresh blood since the '90s in terms of
‘proper' kung fu stars."
Chan himself recognized the need for new talent, and in 2007 he launched a
reality TV competition called The Disciple. Sixteen finalists braved
gruelling training, car stunts and high-altitude wire suspension in hopes of
becoming the next big action movie star. The winner, Jack Tu, who was born in
Taiwan but grew up in Canada and the U.S., has been shadowing Chan to learn
the trade and was on set for the filming of The Spy Next Door. Other than his
participation as an extra, though, he has yet to break out as a major figure.
But when - and if - he does, he may find that the demand is no longer there.
Our culture of celebrity means that star power drives action films today. No
one cares if Ben Affleck wields a cane with all the dexterity and attitude of
a grandmother. CGI will fix that.
The real stuff is no longer practical. Why spend months choreographing an
action sequence, risking injury to the actors, when tighter editing, short
cuts and computers will produce the same result?
Hong Kong filmmakers are now co-producing movies with China and creating
blockbuster-style films. "Recent action films such as Red Cliff are big
budget, and post-production special effects along the lines of Lord of the
Rings generate panoramic, breathtaking scenes that real-life stunts and
action sometimes cannot match," says Kay Li of the Canadian Foundation for
Asian Culture.
Besides, viewers in the West have regressed 20 years in their understanding
of martial arts, according to Mark Pollard, Kungfucinema.com's founder and
senior editor. He notes that the upcoming Karate Kid remake starring Chan and
Will Smith's son Jaden actually features kung fu. (Karate is Japanese; kung
fu is Chinese.) The Karate Kid is due out in theatres later this year.
Those in the industry, however, continue to search for new blood in the hopes
that audiences will tire of CGI.
"There's a shift back towards the real thing," says Bey Logan, a Hong Kong
film producer and former vice-president for Asian acquisitions at Weinstein
Brothers.
He says there are possible candidates lurking in the wings, citing Hong Kong
actor and martial artist Wu Jing. There is even a future for the 46-year-old
Jet Li contemporary Donnie Yen, who Logan suggests "has just come into his
own."
Pollard, though, is not holding his breath.
"In the old days, you had a whole string of actors and you knew someone was
going to follow in their footsteps," Pollard says. "But I'm thinking there is

Aikido is one of the traditional forms of martial arts that combine both the body and the mind. It does not only emphasize the application of physical skills but also the spirituality of practitioners and people who wish to find out the art.

Aikido is a technique that incorporates moves that are more defensive than offensive. In fact, it seeks not to injure but to prevent or stop a person. This is maybe why there is rarely a weapon employed in the sport. The martial arts is manufactured mostly of movements and techniques. Still, the’re some, who’re already advanced, that go into weapons training. Weapons that are used in aikido are the tanto, the wooden jo and the bokken. Often, techniques in taking weapons from opponents and keeping the weapon practitioners are using are taught.

More than specific weapons, practitioners of aikido rely mostly on the moves that they’re being taught with. Their mastery of these movements are their weapons against people who want to do them harm.

Below is a rundown of the movements and techniques taught in aikido.

Ikkyo

This is the most basic movement in aikido. In fact, it is the first one to be coached. Ikkyo makes use of control in the grip by applying hand grip on the elbow and near the wrist. The grip can apply pressure on the ulnar, a medial portion of the arm.

Atemi

Atemi are feints or strikes that are used as attacks against the vital points o the body. This movement is meant to cause much damage; so it is rarely being employed in aikido. Still, if there’s a need, one can use atemi in fighting your way from brawls. It can also be used as a form of distraction. Atemis can consider your opponent by surprise and break his concentration by providing a startling incident. When used the proper way, it can likewise ruin your opponent’s balance, which can render a chance for you to strike or to take to the woods.

Another build of strikes that can be used in aikido is the kick. This is even so not used as often. Aikido does not encourage the employment of kicks because injuries induced by these kinds of movements may be too dangerous. Also, kicks aren’t so everyday in feudal Japan, where aikido originated.

face-thrust – Although the aikido name, Ganmen-tsuki, can be rather intricate, it is basically a punch directed to the face.

Side-face – Also termed Yokomenuchi, this strike is done by making a diagonal knife-hand strike at the side of the neck or the side of the head of the opponent.

Chest-thrust – Called Mune-tsuki, this is basically a punch to the torso, targeting the chest, the solar plexus and the tummy

Attacks
Although attacks are basically not encouraged in the research of aikido, teachers still see the need for it should circumstances justify an increasingly offensive technique. One example of an attack used in aikido is the immobilizing grab, which is frequently used when opponents wield weapons.

Grabs
This is about the most basic systems in aikido. It is reckoned safer and easier to do. It is a method used to free one’s hand, rid your opponents’ of their weapon or to immobilize an individual.

Aikido is a japanes martial art, which is as effective as any filipino martial art.

For the first time ever did a Thailand prison open it’s gates for male fighters to come in and fight!On 28th Februaryh, the director of Nonthaburi Correctional Institute Mr. Aree Chaleysuk and Mr. Frank Sitpholek (Pattaya Thailand) organised a Muay Thai event which was unique in its kind! Normally it is impossible to come in to the "Bangkok Hilton" without registering and identifying at a prison, but for this event the prison made an exception to show a little of the inside of the prison to the rest of the world. The occasion was also used to raise some money for the prison library and to buy some sport equipment for the sports hall in the prison. At 13.00 hours the show started with some fights between two Thais, mostly among prisoners. At 15.00 hours the main event started which was aired by the two most important live Thai TV channels as wel as with the Pattaya TV station. Over 500 vistors, mostly Farangs, Thai name for foreigners, were watching the show which was held in the open under very warm conditions (about 32”C).The Thai music was performed by a life band as is traditional in Thailand muay thai events.The main fight of the afternoon was of course the title fight of "King of the Ring", between Wanlop Sitpholek (Thailand) and Abdulmalik Gadzhiev (Russia). The tall Russian weighed in a bit heavier as the raigning champion for King of the Rings in K-1 rules 72,5 kg., Wanlop Sitpholek. This didn’t overshadow the fight, so we witnessed a thrilling and sensational fight.. The Russian proved to be very explosive and dangerous with his elbow techniques but he wasn’t able to hit the Thai with a clear one. In round 4 Wanlop through a left hook to the chin of the Russian who went down for a 8-count. He recovered very quickly, but Wanlop kept continuing showing to be the better one. After 5 rounds the public went crazy of enthousiasme, the Thai prisoners who were also watching from behind the bars made a lot of noise celebrating, what they already understood, the new Muay Thai King of the Ring super world champion Wanlop Sitpholek!The belt was presented by the managing director of Kings of the Ring, Mr. Harry Gorian (Croatia) to the president of WMC, General Chetta Thanajaro (Thailand) who proudly gave the belt to the new Muay Thai champion. Among the VIP guests was also IFMA president Sakchye Tapsuwan. Among the spectators that were present at this event were, K-1 star Ray Sefo, Thai legendary fighter Sangtiennoi, French Jean-Charles Skarbowsky (nowadays living in Thailand) and also Arslan Magomedov from Russia who was the original opponent of Wanlop, but had to be replaced because of his injury.The organisors are now talking and planning more fights in the prison, next event will probably be held on the 9th of March

Parkour is an art of movement in which you train the body and mind to overcome obstacles. A parkour practitioner, called a traceur (male) or traceuse (female), uses their surroundings to improve their ability to move in space. By interacting with obstacles, be they urban architecture or the natural environment, the practitioner becomes more comfortable controlling his body and navigating any terrain.
The meat of parkour is the discipline of daily training, physical and technical, to heighten the body’s natural movement elements such as strength, speed, balance, coordination, precision, power, and endurance.
The application of parkour is efficient traversal when circumstance necessitates it, such as being chased, or needing to reach a destination. While this is the practical application of the training, one could do parkour their entire lives and not ever have to use it in this way, similar to a martial artist never getting into a fight. Though it may never have to be utilized in this way, the benefits of parkour are far reaching. Being that parkour is made up of a lot of movements that are natural to the human animal, the body is strengthened evenly and synergistically, meaning all the parts of the body learn to work together. This helps to balance the body and improve all movement in general.
Aside from the physical benefits, many people find training parkour develops mental clarity, confidence, self-discipline, the ability to deal with fear, and many other mental gains.

How do you train at the highest level? Is this a question that you have asked yourself? I have had the same issue; one of the things we have found is that in order to train well, you as a Martial Artist must be willing to make sacrifices. You must also be willing to invest in the tools that will enable you to train at the desired level. We have trained hundreds of Martial Artist, one thing they all have in common is the first investment they decide to make as Martial Artists. The first thing they decide to invest is their time. It takes at least 10 hours a week to train at a high level. You as a Martial Artist have to be willing to invest the time it would take in to train hard.
You have to be willing to train on weekends; you have to willing to train at night. You have to be willing to take the time necessary steps to implement the proper diet in order to sufficiently fuel your body in order to allow a strict training regimen. You have to take the time to prepare meals that are high in protein and contain enough carbohydrates to maintain a calorie count sufficient to support you training.
If this sounds tough, it should. As Martial Artist we have to be willing to take the “tough” route and truly embrace the journey that you will travel along during your Martial Arts training regimen. This is the part of the process that will take the most time. This journey will actually encompass you life. Martial Arts training becomes part your life. You do not become a Martial Artist, Martial Arts becomes you. This is the reward for the time you have sacrificed, for the time you have spent in the gym training, sparring, practicing your forms.
Training at the highest level requires many things. As a dedicated Martial Artist, we must strive to overcome as many of those obstacles as possible. Martial Arts in that respect imitates life. When you initially began any Martial Arts training program, it seems like an impossible feat. Every push-up feels like your last, every crunch feels like you can’t go on. It is the next push-up, the next sit-up that will separate you from everyone. It is that point where everyone else quits where you have the opportunity to excel. It is the point of no return!
In order to train at a level necessary to be the best Martial Artist you can be, there is another facet of training that is extremely important. You must take the time understand and embrace the emotional and spiritual aspects of Martial Arts training. One of the most important parts of Martial Arts training is comprehending the premise that the mind and the soul are immensely stronger than the body. As Martial Artist, once we understand that fact, we can “win” any battle.
